Quick answer
The best route for 8 days · 7 nights
For an eight-day Berlin and Prague trip, spend four nights in Berlin and three in Prague, taking the train on day five. Berlin gets three full days for its dispersed museums, neighborhoods, and historical sites; Prague gets two full days split between the castle side and the old town. Arrive in Berlin and leave from Prague if your flights allow it. Confirm the exact Prague arrival station before booking your hotel transfer.
Berlin and Prague make a satisfying pair because they ask you to travel differently. Berlin rewards a good transit plan and time with its history. Prague invites you to slow down in a small street, cross the river, and see where the next staircase goes. Trying to cover both at the same speed makes one feel rushed and the other overplanned.
This route gives Berlin the extra night and keeps the train day mostly clear. There is one main museum visit, a separate day for the Berlin Wall Memorial, and two geographically sensible Prague days. You can add interiors that matter to you, but the plan does not depend on winning every ticket slot. The linked Huvver template includes the default route, approximate accommodation bases, and alternatives in Ideas.
Why this route works
- Four Berlin nights leave time to understand a few historical sites instead of collecting exterior photographs.
- A single hotel change makes the rail connection useful without turning the holiday into a packing routine.
- Prague Castle and the old town have separate days, leaving room for hills, queues, and lunch.
- Arrival and departure days stay light enough to work around real flights.
Day by day
The complete 8 days itinerary
Day 1 · Berlin
Arrive in Berlin and settle into Mitte
Reach your hotel, leave your bags, and take a short neighborhood walk. The template uses Friedrichstraße as a central arrival reference, followed by the Spree nearby. Have dinner close to your accommodation. A first night that ends early is useful preparation for the more substantial historical visits ahead.
- Berlin city arrival
- Spree riverside
Good to know: Add your actual airport or station transfer; the central pin is not an airport connection.
Day 2 · Berlin
The government quarter and a reflective afternoon
Start around the Reichstag exterior and Brandenburg Gate, then spend unhurried time at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. These are places to pause, not a quick sightseeing circuit. Leave the afternoon for lunch and a short Tiergarten walk. A confirmed Reichstag dome slot can fit into this day by replacing some park time.
- Reichstag exterior
- Brandenburg Gate
- Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe
- Tiergarten edge
Good to know: Dome and roof-terrace access require advance registration. The exterior route works without it.
Day 3 · Berlin
Understand the Berlin Wall at Bernauer Straße
Give the Berlin Wall Memorial the morning, using the official site map to connect the preserved border landscape with the interpretation that interests you. A single surviving fragment cannot explain the whole story. After lunch, continue toward Prenzlauer Berg for a quieter afternoon around Kollwitzplatz. Keep the evening free instead of crossing Berlin for another major attraction.
- Berlin Wall Memorial
- Kollwitzplatz neighborhood
Good to know: Check the visitor and documentation buildings separately; an outdoor memorial walk and an indoor exhibition have different access needs.
Day 4 · Berlin
One Museum Island visit, then room to wander
Make the Neues Museum your main visit and follow its current entrance instructions. Allow the morning for the collection rather than booking another museum immediately afterward. Eat nearby, walk through the Lustgarten, and spend the afternoon around Hackescher Markt. If archaeology is not your interest, substitute one museum you actually want to visit and keep the same relaxed structure.
- Neues Museum
- Lustgarten
- Hackescher Markt
Good to know: Neues Museum normally closes Mondays. Reorder the Berlin days when your dates change; check special closures too.
Day 5 · Prague
Take the train to Prague
Travel from Berlin Hauptbahnhof using the service on your ticket. Check the Prague station carefully: Praha hlavní nádraží and Praha-Holešovice are different arrival points. The template uses the main station as a replaceable reference. Once in Prague, go to your accommodation and have dinner nearby. Save the castle and bridge for the two full days that follow.
- Berlin Hauptbahnhof
- Prague arrival station
- Prague check-in
Good to know: The template includes a generous rail planning allowance, not a guaranteed service duration. Replace it with your dated connection.
Day 6 · Prague
Prague Castle and Malá Strana
Reach the castle area in the morning and make the visit your main commitment. Choose the current circuit that covers the interiors you want, then take a long lunch. Continue down toward Malá Strana and Malostranské náměstí, with time for the smaller streets. The downhill finish is intentional; you do not need to climb back for another timed visit.
- Prague Castle
- Malostranské náměstí
- Malá Strana lanes
Good to know: Check operational restrictions, bag rules, and your route uphill. Use transit for the approach if a steep walk does not suit you.
Day 7 · Prague
Charles Bridge and the old town
Start on the Malá Strana side of Charles Bridge and cross toward the old town. Continue to Old Town Square, then give the afternoon to Josefov’s streets and a café. This schedule covers the neighborhood exteriors. If the Jewish Museum is important to you, reserve a substantial part of the day for its sites and reduce the wandering, checking the religious calendar and current admission first.
- Charles Bridge
- Old Town Square
- Josefov neighborhood
Good to know: An early bridge walk can make the morning feel calmer, but the rest of the day does not need an early start.
Day 8 · Prague
Depart from Prague
Have breakfast, collect your bags, and use the departure transfer you have checked for your flight or train. The template ends at the main station as an onward-travel reference. Replace it if you are flying. Keep a final café visit close to the hotel rather than making one last cross-city expedition.

Before you go
Make the plan dependable
Book the route before the sightseeing
Compare an arrival in Berlin with a departure from Prague, then confirm the intercity train. Read the full station names and any changes before buying. Keep the hotel arrival day flexible and leave room for station access, bags, and check-in. If your cheapest flights return from Berlin, add the return journey and preferably a final Berlin night; do not hide it inside the Prague departure morning.
Stay near useful transit, not every landmark
In Berlin, a base around Mitte or a well-connected station is more useful than trying to walk everywhere. In Prague, compare Old Town, Nové Město, and Malá Strana against your luggage route and tolerance for hills or late-night noise. Look at the actual accommodation entrance on the map. The template stay pins identify neighborhoods, not recommended or reserved hotels.
Separate registration from a casual exterior visit
The Reichstag dome needs advance registration even though admission is free. Prague Castle has its own opening calendar, ticket circuits, and operational restrictions. Keep booking confirmations with the corresponding day. If access is unavailable, use the exterior walk already in the template; there is no reason to rebuild the whole trip around one missed slot.
Choose the museum that is actually open
Check the Neues Museum calendar and its James-Simon-Galerie entrance instructions. Pergamonmuseum refurbishment means that “Museum Island” is not a promise that every gallery is available; the Panorama is a separate visit. At the Wall Memorial, consult the site map before deciding how much indoor interpretation to include. Two thoughtful visits usually make a better day than four hurried entrances.
Keep two currencies visible
Berlin expenses are in euros and Prague expenses are in Czech koruna. Record what you actually paid in the original currency and keep a consistent settlement currency if you are sharing costs. Compare individual attraction tickets with any city pass against this exact itinerary. A pass only saves money when it covers visits you intended to make and does not push you into a faster pace.

Useful variations
Only six days
Use three nights in Berlin and two in Prague. Keep one Berlin history day, one museum or neighborhood day, and one Prague day centered on either the castle or old town. Accept that the shorter version offers a first impression rather than the full route.
Traveling with children or limited walking energy
Shorten the historical-site days, keep one substantial visit per morning, and use transit for the Prague Castle approach. Discuss the content of memorial visits beforehand. Choose a nearby park or café as the stopping point when attention runs out.
Add two nights
Give each city one extra night for a personal interest or a weather buffer. Research a day trip only after that; Dresden or another stop between cities requires its own luggage and hotel plan.
FAQ
Common planning questions
Is eight days enough for Berlin and Prague?
Yes, for this two-city route. Four Berlin nights and three Prague nights give you five full sightseeing days and one intercity travel day, with arrival and departure on the ends. It does not include an extra overnight destination.
Should I rent a car for Berlin and Prague?
This itinerary is designed around rail, local transit, and walking. A car adds parking and city driving without helping the scheduled visits. Check the rail connection for your dates before deciding whether a different transport plan is needed.
Which Prague station should I choose?
Use the station served by your booked train and plan the hotel transfer from that exact point. The template starts with Praha hlavní nádraží, but some searches and services use Praha-Holešovice. Replace the pin if necessary.
